Aquaculture Day - July 19, 2014


On Saturday, July 19, Star Prairie Trout Farm will be participating with scheduled activities as part of Aquaculture Day.  Star Prairie Trout Farm is the oldest operating fish farm in the state, having hatchery operations dating back in 1856. Currently they have thirty one ponds/raceways, in addition to their hatchery operations that hatch over 300,000 fish each year.

Fee fishing will open from 11a to 7p with special events throughout the day. From noon to 2pm. there will be “behind the scenes” tours, cooking demo and food sampling, Gyotaku fish prints for the first 60 kids and kids can have fun at Fish Pond prize game.  Bring the family, catch some trout, have a picnic and have fun! “This is a great event for Wisconsin farmers to invite the public to their farms to spend the day learning about aquaculture and the benefits of using farmed raised fish for their families. Kids and adults alike will learn how aquaculture provides local healthy food, and improves the state’s economy, local communities and recreational opportunities,” stated Jeff Taylor, board director of the Wisconsin Aquaculture Association and general manager of Star Prairie Trout Farm.



Picnics and Fishing!

Enjoy Rainbow Trout fishing in our cold, crystal clear spring water ponds. Poles and tackle are provided and there is no license or limit. Bait is available at a minimal cost. Picnic alongside the rushing Apple River and active spring fed ponds, while relaxing under tall white pines.

Events and Parties at Star Prairie Trout Farm

TentsThe trout farm is a scenic and unique setting for family gatherings and reunions, graduation parties, weddings or corporate picnics. Tents are available with tables and chairs for a maximum group of 300 people. If you prefer, a large lighted city gazebo adjacent to the farm is also available with advance reservation.

We are available year round for events and parties from something as simple as taking graduation/wedding or other photographs on Weddingour beautiful, scenic grounds, to weddings, company picnics, graduation parties or any other event you may have in mind.

There is a minimum fee of $50 for any event and prices go up from there depending on the size, length of time of the event and other items you might need for your event. Options include, but are not limited to, party tent(s), tables and chairs, wedding arch, porta-potties, and catered food- which can include Star Prairie Trout! ***In order to confirm your date, we require that a $50 non-refundable fee be paid. Half of the remaining balance must be paid within two weeks of reservation and the remaining balance due 30 days prior to your event.
